Middle School Visit from Lieutenant Colonel Mann

Lieutenant Colonel Mann has spent several hours this spring teaching 5th, 7th, and 8th grade students at St. Francis Middle School about flight, educational and career choices, futures briefing, and assorted math and science lessons related to aviation and a technological future.

5th grade students conducted mini experiments using the scientific process and created simulated flight schedule plans. They also learned about the four forces of flight, time zone variances, and national airport and city codes.  7th and 8th graders took a more in-depth look at Einstein’s theories and decision making that will impact their futures, especially as it relates to finances, exponential vs. linear growth patterns, and space exploration.

Captain Mann has broad experience as both a commercial pilot for Southwest Airlines and as an exemplary Air Force Pilot. We thank him for his dedication and for the hours he spends teaching and sharing his experiences with our appreciative middle school students.
