St. Francis School Announcement 4/24/20
Dear St. Francis Parents,
As you know, teachers and staff at St. Francis have committed countless hours researching, learning, planning, and implementing distance learning practices since March 16, 2020. Teachers had to learn new platforms, applications, and programs in less than a week to find an adequate learning system to be able to communicate, instruct, and meet the academic needs of all students virtually. As a result of the immense collaborative efforts put forth, our students have equitable access to technology and devices, distance learning resources, and regular communication with their teacher and classmates.
Although teachers, students and parents have all had to adjust schedules, learn new routines, and to turn their homes into classrooms, we need to remember to be thankful for the opportunities and dedication and realize that we all worked TOGETHER to make this possible for our students. COVID-19 pushed its way into our “normal” lives and robbed us of certainty and security in many ways. Parents are asked to juggle work-at-home commitments, multiple students schedules, limited resources, or even the loss of jobs and financial support, among many “new” responsibilities, all due to the Stay-At-Home order that COVID-19 so inconveniently intruded on us. It is not an ideal situation for anyone.
Although many teachers have expressed their sadness to me, shared how they missed their students tremendously and said how they would “much rather have students in their classrooms”, we all understand and support the decision Governor Walz and the MDE Commissioner Ricker have announced yesterday afternoon, that distance learning will continue for MN schools for the remainder of the school year. This announcement also means that spring sports, school events, and activities that are usually planned and anticipated during this time of year, have all been effected. This includes events such as the Fish Fries, Prairie Fire school play, Spring Band & Choir Concert, 1st Communion Mass, 8th D.C. trip, classroom field trips, KinderFriend Day, preschool graduation, 8th grade graduation Mass celebration, and End-of-the-Year picnic. Although some things have been cancelled some are yet unknown. Please rest assured that St. Francis school will communicate plans and updates as soon as details are finalized, through our school website, Facebook, and email messages.
With that said, please know that the teachers and staff at St. Francis will continue to strive to meet the academic needs of students while strengthening relationship, and being flexible and understanding in all situations, and ensuring the social and emotional well- being of all. To prolong the faith-based quality education and plan and prepare for the remainder of the year, there will be no distance learning for students Friday May 1st and Monday May 4th. We will continue to pray for the health and safety of our students, families, and colleagues.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or your teachers. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together for a great end to the school year. God bless and stay safe!
