St. Francis is Growing...Literally!

 

We are so proud of our garden club’s hard work this year! Since early last Spring, they've gotten to learn all about what it takes to manage a garden, including:

  • Planting in the greenhouse

  • Preparing garden beds

  • Caring for seedlings

  • Transplanting

  • Building flower arrangements

  • Maintaining garden beds

  • Harvesting…and more!

And we also want to give a special shout out to Mr. Matt Bahl for leading & teaching this group of students - he has shared countless hours of time & expertise with them, and we’re so thankful for his dedication to agriculture, education, and the overall stewardship of these resources!

 
 

So far, the fruits of our Garden Club’s labor include (but are not limited to) tomatoes, basil, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, and squash, and they've also provided beautiful flower arrangements in front of our school:

 
 

We are also thrilled to announce that St. Francis of the Lakes is a recipient of the MINNDEPENDENT 2026 STEM Sustainability Grant, receiving $760 to support our greenhouse! This grant, combined with a generous donor gift, will provide a fan system that will allow for greater temperature control in our greenhouse and ensure healthier plants throughout the growing season. Thank you to MINNDEPENDENT and our generous donor for investing in our students - we are so excited to see how this hands-on learning opportunity continues to grow!
