Distance Learning Through May 4
Dear St. Francis Parents,
Yesterday, Governor Tim Walz issues a Minnesota Stay at Home Directive for residents of Minnesota, as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The order will take effect at 11:59pm on Friday March 27th to keep people home as much as possible and minimize the person-to-person contact that has contributed to the current global pandemic. Gov. Walz also directed MN public schools to officially implement distant learning on Monday March 30th and continue through May 4th and St. Francis Catholic School will also be following these directions. After May 4th we plan to be back in our school buildings, however, we also need to understand and be flexible if things change as they have so many times.
Your teachers have been planning and preparing lessons for the last two weeks to be able to provide instruction via alternative methods. This includes researching, learning, practicing, and creating lesson activities and plans in ways that they normally would not have considered, in the hope to provide the best instruction possible to St. Francis students. The teachers put together boxes for each family to include materials and resources for the students, including any loaned laptops and/or iPads. These materials along with online resources, virtual class meetings, and recorded videos, etc. will help to offer the best that is possible with limited time and resources. More information regarding accessing the online resources will be sent in following emails from myself or your teachers directly before Monday.
We will ask each family to pick-up their boxes curb side between Friday between 8am-7pm and/or Saturday from 9am-12pm.
Curb side pick-up Directions:
Turn onto 10th street by Franklin and Church and follow Juniper to school.
Pull up in the front of the school using north side of street (close to building) DO NOT block crosswalks or intersections.
A teacher or staff person will approach your vehicle for family’s name (or use carpool sign if you have it).
Move vehicle up as far as you are able while waiting for supplies (as in carpool).
You do not need to get out of the vehicle, just indicate where you want the box(s) ex: back seat, trunk, etc.
As soon as safe, pull back into traffic and turn left to exit off Juniper.
If you are unable to pick-up curb side during these dates and times, please contact Trish in the school office at trish.sypnieski@sf-school.org or the school at 218-829-2344.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Jennifer Nagel, Principal
