The Lenten Season at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd brings the Friday Fish Frys. If you missed the first fish fry, make dinner plans for Friday, March 6th. In all six Fish Frys are hosted, with the final one on Friday April 3rd.
The Fish Frys have been a part of St. Francis School and church for nearly 20 years. It started off as a fundraiser for the school. Rumor has it that when it first started the fish was prepared in electric skillets! Through the years, the fish preparation has changed. For many years the fish was prepared in a garage that was located to the Northeast of the church. Last year marked the beginning of having a Fish fry Trailer located behind the church. Whatever way the meal was prepared; the Lenten Fish Frys are a mainstay of our Catholic Community.
Indeed the Fish Frys began as a fundraiser for the school but has become so much more. It still is an opportunity to financially support the school, which is a good thing. We can’t discount the fellowship that takes place on these six Fridays. Friends have an opportunity to catch up and families have ready made plans for Friday supper. School parents and students are encouraged to volunteer each Friday. This gives ample opportunity to visit with the students as they volunteer throughout the evening.
With much anticipation, we prepare for the Lenten Season which includes the Fish Frys. This will be the first year in the new kitchen and refurbished Social Hall! If you haven’t had opportunity to attend a Fish Fry, please do so this year! The meal and the company can’t be beat. If you have been an ardent attendee, we are very grateful! We look forward to seeing you on Friday March 6th 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. St. Francis Social Hall. The adult meal price is $12 and Child meal price is $6.
