January Music Update
Spring Showcase- Tuesday May 9th
Our Spring Showcase will be on Tuesday May 9th in the St. Francis gymnasium. We will have an Art Show at 6pm and music program will start at 6:30pm.
This Showcase will include an Art Show featuring works from all St. Francis students. The performance will include our St. Francis Band and Choir students.
Dress is Sunday's Best. No Jeans, No tennis shoes, No T-shirts. If girls are wearing dress, length must be below knee. Tops must cover your shoulders.
Piano Recital- Friday April 14th
Piano students of Sue Jewell will be performing in a recital. It will be held on Friday, April 14th at 6:30pm in the St. Francis gymnasium. More information will be sent home with piano students.
Christmas Program DVD
The Christmas program DVD is available to order for $10.00. The Music General did a beautiful job recording it. It includes band, choir, all school, and piano student performances. Please contact Becky in the office if you would like a DVD.
Valleyfair Field Trip- Friday June 2nd
4th-8th grade band and choir students have the opportunity to go to Valleyfair on Friday, June 2nd. More information to come from Sue Jewell about the field trip.
Band
Maternity Leave
During Mrs. Peterson's maternity we are fortunate to have help from Kathy Binsfeld and CLC student Samantha Melberg. They will be helping out part time so please read through for a few changes to the band program. The plan is to be back from leave on April 17th, any changes will be communicated!
If you need to get into contact with Kathy Binsfeld and Samantha Melberg please contact Becky in the office. She will forward any messages to them and they will contact you back.
The 4th grade band will be having band class like normal on Wednesday's during music class with Mrs. Binsfeld. Due to teacher availability there will be no band 1/25, 2/1, 2/8. Students can be practicing at home in their books, beginning band tunes packet, and Foundation Warm sheet.
The middle school students will be having band class like normal: 7/8 band on Monday's and Wednesday's, 5/6 band on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Mrs. Binsfeld and Ms. Melberg will be team teaching.
There will be no weekly lessons, trash can band, or jazz band for band students during Mrs. Peterson's maternity leave.
Mrs. Jewell will help prepare students for Mass. Students need to come to practice in Mrs. Jewell's during recess (11:30-11:50) on the Tuesday before their scheduled Mass. It is important your child practices their music weeks in advance to feel prepared to play. Mrs. Jewell has the final say if students are ready to play in Mass or on all of the songs. Below is a schedule of who is playing at Mass during my leave.
Music
Grades K through 8 will begin working in their music theory workbooks. We will be studying and reviewing rhythms, notes and their values, different music styles, composers, and so much more.
Mass Schedule
All cantors and band students need to come to practice during recess (11:30-11:50) the Tuesday before their scheduled Mass. Please check the schedule below to help remind your child. Students have access to the whole schedule at school, they are posted by the music and band room.
